Wix noindex: the SEO basics page toggle
The Let search engines index this page toggle sits in each page's SEO basics settings. Exact steps, and the site-wide switch that overrides them.
Wix excludes a page when "Let search engines index this page" is disabled, and a sitewide setting can override every page toggle. Open the page under "Pages & Menu > More Actions > SEO basics," enable indexing, check the dashboard override if the control is unavailable, publish, and verify the live page.
Why Wix does this
Wix documents the per-page route in "Preventing Search Engines from Indexing Your Page": "Click Pages & Menu on the left side of the editor. Click the More Actions icon next to the relevant page. Click SEO basics. Disable the Let search engines index this page toggle." Their note: "Pages that search engines are prevented from indexing may not appear in your sitemap." There is also a site-wide switch from the site's dashboard, and it overrides the page toggles: "Preventing search engines from indexing your entire site disables the options to prevent indexing groups of pages or individual pages."
Check it right now
Before changing anything, confirm what a crawler actually sees. The check is free, takes one URL and needs no account.
How to fix it
- Go to your editor.
- Click Pages & Menu on the left side of the editor.
- Click the More Actions icon next to the affected page.
- Click SEO basics.
- Re-enable the "Let search engines index this page" toggle.
- If page toggles will not change, check the dashboard setting that prevents search engines from indexing the entire site, and turn it off.
- Re-check the page with the free indexability tool below.
Why it happens again
One toggle per page with no view of which pages are off: a page hidden for a soft launch stays hidden at launch, and anyone with editor access can flip one without the rest of the team noticing. Password-protected pages are excluded from crawling entirely, so a page that sat behind a password starts from nothing once the password is gone.
stillindexed re-checks the URLs you give it every 30 minutes on Starter and alerts when a directive changes, at most 30 minutes after it does. It is a monitor rather than a crawler: it watches a list you choose and tells you when one of seven things changes. Card first, no trial, and a 30 day refund.
Catching it next time
Fixing it once is the easy half. The setting that caused this can be changed again by anyone with access, and the page will keep returning 200 while it happens.
